Parents of Athletes

All parents should understand that their conduct at sporting events significantly influences the environment and experience for all participants. You are role models for your children and your behavior can set the tone for how student athletes and other spectators act. Positive actions, such as showing respect for referees, coaches, and players from both teams, contribute to a supportive and enjoyable atmosphere. Conversely, negative behavior, such as yelling at officials, arguing with other spectators, or displaying unsportsmanlike conduct, can create tension and detract from the positive experiences that school sports aim to provide.

Moreover, parents should be aware that Newtown follows the South-West Conference Code Conduct (SWC) for spectators, which are designed to promote a safe and respectful environment. Violating these guidelines can result in being asked to leave the event or even being banned from future events. By understanding and adhering to these expectations, parents not only support their own children but also contribute to the overall integrity and enjoyment of the sporting event. Encouraging good sportsmanship, both on and off the field, helps foster a sense of community and teaches valuable life lessons about respect, self-control, and the importance of fair play.

South-West Conference Code Conduct (SWC)

The SWC Encourages and Expects

  • Good Sportsmanship(Ex. Positive cheering at all times)
  • Family Friendly Environment
  • Positive Fan Support
  • Positive Fan Interaction

Spectators Attending SWC Events

are considered guests of the host school, making attendance a privilege rather than a right. Fans who exhibit unacceptable behavior may face sanctions such as denial of entry, removal from the event, and potential arrest.

  • Open Containers on Entry
  • Masks
  • Admission Reentry
  • Bare Torsos- shirts must be worn at all events-indoors and outdoors
  • Noisemakers(bells, whistles, air horns, megaphones, etc.)

The SWC Does Not Condone and Will Not Tolerate

  • Disruptions to the Game (Ex. Storming the Playing Surface, Throwing objects on Field/Court, Destruction of Property)
