Attendance

All students are expected to take personal responsibility and ownership for their education, arriving to school on time and being prepared to learn. Whenever possible, please schedule appointments after dismissal. 

Reporting Absences, Late Arrivals, and Early Dismissals

Student ID's required to enter & exit the building.

For Health Related Absences, please contact the Health Office Directly

  • To report an absence, late arrival, or early dismissal, please contact NHS by 10 a.m. by calling or by logging into the PowerSchool Parent Portal.
  • Late arrivals: Students arriving late must scan their student ID at the Security Desk.
  • Early dismissals:
  • To get a pass, a parent or guardian must provide permission to the Attendance or Health Office by 10 a.m.
  • Without a pre-approved pass, a parent or guardian must come into the building with a photo ID to sign the student out.
  • Required notes: If a student misses school due to an appointment, they must submit a doctor's note or a note from the office they visited.

Newtown High School is a closed campus. Students are not permitted to leave and return to the campus unless permission is obtained by the Attendance Secretary and an Assistant Principal. All students are expected to remain in school until the end of the school day regardless of free periods.

Failure to observe the Attendance guidelines above may result in loss of credit and/or disciplinary action.
